There is no standard size security gate because every opening has different measurements even if they look the same. We custom-make your security gate to fit the measurements we take on site and this contributes to the strength of the security barrier.

Trellidor products are available from a wide network of officially appointed Trellidor installers. Our security barriers are not available off-the-shelf.

Trellidor do not keep a stock of ready-made security gates in any of our ranges. Our products that are purpose-made and professionally fitted to stand up to a determined attack far longer than an off-the-shelf one that's not properly installed. The validity of our warranties also requires that we fit our products ourselves, and not the customer.

No. Trellidor products can only be installed by Trellidor appointed installers that are authorized to carry our specialized installation tools. Warranties are invalid if our products have not been installed by authorized technicians, including second-hand Trellidor barriers. If you are uncertain whether or not the person trying to sell you a Trellidor product is authorized to do so, please.

Yes, we have our own patented slam-lock, which we fit to certain Trellidor Retractable gate models and on customer request. Our research and development tests, however, show that a dead-lock is the best defense against a concerted attack. The slam-lock is a two-point lock, not the recommended three-point lock we install as standard on most gate models.

Our in-house strength tests have shown that a dead-lock is stronger than a slam-lock. A slam-lock may seem convenient but it also has drawbacks, such as locking yourself outside the house accidentally. Also, the scenario of having to run back into the house and slam the gate locked is an unlikely one. You are more likely to need good locks when your house is empty or locked up for the night. This is where our dead-lock is an advantage due to its strength. The more the lock is attacked, the tighter the draw bolt locks get, and the stronger it resists an assault. Trellidor's patented dead-lock conveniently requires only one key to lock all three points.

All Trellidor security systems carry a warranty in terms of quality, defective workmanship, materials and corrosion resistance, no matter where they're installed. In Canada we also comply with the Consumer Protection Act. By following our suggested maintenance regime you will ensure maximum longevity of your barriers and the full validity of our warranty. It is essential to keep your receipted invoice in a safe place to use as evidence of your purchase should the need to claim arise after installation.

No responsible security barrier manufacturer should ever claim to have an impenetrable product. Given the right opportunity, thieves can always find a way to get into your home or workplace. Good quality, well-engineered security barriers, such as the Trellidor range, give you the best chance of either being alerted by an attempted break-in and able to call for help or to escape through an emergency exit route because they will hold up under attack far longer than poor quality or DIY barriers do.

No, Trellidor will never ask for your bank details via email, even if you are due a refund. Deposits for orders and final payments are transacted the installer. If you receive an email asking for your personal bank details, please contact your Trellidor installer and query the request. Do not respond to the email with your bank details as this is most likely a scammer looking to defraud you.

The word 'Trellidor' is actually the brand name of South African security barrier manufacturer Trellidor. The company manufactures steel and aluminum sliding trellis-style safety gates. These are fitted to doors and windows to protect people from intruders.

Genuine Trellidor sliding gates have six distinguishing features. They are:

  • Double uprights. 'Uprights' are the vertical steel bars that run from the top to bottom track, and you'll see them in pairs along the length of a Trellidor security gate. This is a strengthening feature.
  • The links that form part of the trellis pattern across a Trellidor gate link three uprights together.
  • U-shaped profiles. The vertical steel bars and the links that connect them are shaped into a 'U', making it easy to coat all surfaces against corrosion.
  • The unique, patented Trellidor lock is branded. The name 'Trellidor' is etched into the lock cylinder.
  • Trellidor gates have a single key and keyhole.
  • Trellidor gates have a T-shaped, low profile bottom track, designed to reduce the chances of tripping over the track and also to make it harder for criminals to pull the uprights off the track.

The recommended cleaning method for Trellidor Retractable security gates is as follows:

  • Use a premium quality (salt-free) car wash liquid, mixed with water as per manufacturer's directions and a soft cotton cloth to clean the entire unit.
  • Hard to reach areas may require the use of a soft nylon bristle brush such as a dishwashing brush.
  • Dry the unit with a soft cotton cloth or chamois.
  • Apply the Trellidor lubricating spray (available from your local installer) to all moving parts, especially all hinge points inside the channel sections and into the top tracks.
  • Shake the can of lubricating spray well, apply to a clean cotton cloth and wipe the entire unit, or spray directly onto unit from a distance of about 20cm.
  • Wipe off the excess residue. This will form a protective barrier against both moisture and contamination of airborne pollutants.
  • A second application may be required if the unit has stood for too long without being lubricated and has become stiff, dry and difficult to operate.
  • Take special note of the following warnings:
Never use abrasive cleaners, detergent-based cleaners or solvent-based cleaners such as scouring agents, dishwashing liquids, washing powders, thinners etc as these could adversely affect the expected life of the sliding security gate.
Do not spray into the keyhole of the cylinder where the key fits!
Remember to read the warnings on the lubricating spray label as the product is highly flammable, must not be ingested and is irritating to eyes and skin.

Trellidor locks are patented designs that are fitted using specialist tools. These tools are not easily available at hardware stores, which is one of the safety features built into Trellidor gates.
You may need to change your lock under the following circumstances:

  • You've had an attempted break-in and the lock has been damaged.
  • If you have several sliding gates in your home, you may want to get your gates keyed-alike. This means that all your locks can be opened with the same key, instead of using different keys for each gate. Trellidor offers this option so that you don't have to keep large bunches of keys around the home. The locks will have to be changed to do this.
  • If you've had a break-in it is advisable to change the locks. The home invaders may steal your keys and use them to get in again.
  • The same applies if you have dismissed employees that work at your home.
  • If you have moved into a new home that has sliding security gates, get the original manufacturer to change the locks. You never know who may have had access to the sliding gate keys.
  • If you keep your house keys on the same key ring as your car keys and have been hijacked. Change the sliding security gate locks to avoid the hijackers or accomplices breaking into your home.
  • In all these cases, you need to call in your local authorized Trellidor supplier to replace the locks for you. They will do it quickly and easily as they have the correct tools to do so.
